Public participation in the Grasbrook competitive dialogue
The Grasbrook competition process, which started in September 2019 and concluded in April 2020 with the final jury decision, was accompanied by an intensive participation process. The mixture of public events and online offerings generated a high level of public interest.
Neighbors from Veddel, Rothenburgsort, Wilhelmsburg and HafenCity as well as interested Hamburg residents were invited to actively participate in the idea process in the run-up to the competitive dialogue as part of four Grasbrook workshops with different thematic focuses, online participation and outreach surveys. In total, around 2,500 citizens contributed their suggestions, concerns and valuable local knowledge to the competitive dialogue for Grasbrook during the competition phase.
Following the competition, a further three Grasbrook workshops on the topics of "Parks, squares and promenades", "Living and working" and "Arriving and staying" offered the opportunity to further deepen the functional and open space planning concepts for Grasbrook in dialogue with neighbors and experts.
Communication and contact with the neighborhood continues to be a high priority. In September 2024, a dialog event was held to report on the current status of planning and highlight the points at which comments from the 2020/2021 community workshop were incorporated.
